Jolly Christmas jumper swap at Reduce and Recycle hub at Acton Market

Jolly Christmas Jumper swap at Acton Market

This winter why buy a new Christmas jumper, when you can swap for a different Christmas jumper, top or t-shirt at the Acton Market Reduce and Recycle hub on 7 December from 10 am to 3pm. We will be accepting donations at our drop off points around Acton and Ealing. At our swaps, you can either give donations, take donations or both. It is all about getting everyone to wear clothes for longer.

Why buy new when you can swap?

Each year, millions of us search for the perfect Christmas jumper to celebrate with friends, colleagues and family. However, with two out of five Christmas jumpers only being worn once over the festive period, this is a prime example of fast fashion as it takes a lot of resources to create clothes that are rarely worn.

Environmental charity Hubbub warns against buying the seasonal garments after finding that up to 95% of them are made using plastic. Plastic clothing made of plastic such as acrylic was responsible for releasing nearly 730,000 microfibres, so microplastic per wash – five times more than a polyester-cotton blend fabric, and nearly 1.5 times as many as pure polyester, as a study by Plymouth University found out in 2016. The issue with Micro plastic fibres are a pollutant, and are be harmful to the environment and animal health. Choose instead tops made from natural fibres such as pure cotton or wool this is completely avoids the microplastics.
